There is a lot of advice given about how to be a successful batter and tactics for connecting with the ball. Learning how to wait for your pitch is a good piece of advice that you have probably received from a lot of people. Thinking about that a little more, and you can extend that to waiting for a pitch that is good for you. Everyone is different, and the techniques that work for you are probably not the same as those that work for other ball players. You need a lot of experience in order to recognize a good pitch and this recognition comes with time. Therefore, work on this skill set and you will see improvement if you are patient. Another important character trait necessary in order for you to be a star hitter is self-discipline.
When you look at younger players in school, you see a lot of batting stances that are totally wrong. At the least, you should keep your feet slightly wider than the the width of your shoulders. This is primarily for maintaining your sense of balance when you begin your hitting motion. To begin with, you need to get the basics, and later you can learn advanced stuff. If you practice with different stance widths, you should find what works best for you. You do need to be in balance and work from a position of strength because there is a lot of motion in the swing.
In some cases, the tools you are using will decide how well you will do. You will definitely have a hard time hitting, when you are using a bat that doesn't fit you. If you are a skillful hitter, the right bat will make you better, but if you don't have any skills, the right bat won't make much difference. When you are talking about the tools of the trade, that is a lot different than talking about how to use those tools. You need to be using a bat that feels just right when you are batting, in order to hit effectively. If you can find a bat that you can handle with both authority and control, it could be the right one. You will have to decide if you do better with a lighter bat with more speed and control, or a heavier bat with more power. There is a fine line between a bat that is too heavy, and one that is too light.
There is a mindset that contributes to being a good and even great baseball hitter. You need to be patient and stubborn because you will need to go on, when those around you say to give up. Playing sports, such as baseball, can be frustrating, and you might want to quit once in a while. If baseball is a goal and not just a dream, don't quit.
