HP's Mini 110-3530nr offers some very unique features for a netbook that can be found under $300. It comes with an anti-glare screen that makes working outside easier, a faster hard drive and a six cell battery pack for extra running time. While all these features are great, there are a few items that are very disappointing including just 1GB of DDR2 memory that can't be upgraded that greatly impacts performance and a keyboard that isn't a nice as HP's slightly more expensive netbooks.
HP's Mini 110 netbook has been on the market for some time and has had the same design since its introduction. It is designed as their most affordable netbook model and its $300 base price tag reflects this. The Mini 110-3530nr has been updated to use the newer Intel Atom N455 processor but it doesn't really have any performance gains over previous Atom models. The real disappointing aspect though is the use of older DDR2 memory and just 1GB. This hampers performance and makes upgrading the memory pretty much impossible.
While the performance may be restricted by the memory, the opposite is the case with the hard drive for the Mini 110-3530nr. Rather than relying on slower 5400rpm spin rate drives, HP has placed a faster spin 7200rpm drive in. This combined with the 250GB hard drive size gives it a good amount of storage space and faster data access.
The display and graphics of the HP Mini 110-3530nr have pretty much remained unchanged which is good. It still uses a 10.1-inch display with the typical 1024x600 resolution. While most companies are using glossy displays in netbooks, HP has included an anti-glare coating which is extremely useful for anyone looking to use this outside or in conditions that could produce a lot of glare or reflections. The newer GMA 3150 integrated graphics are still a major major hurdle though as it prevents the system from even doing 720p high definition video playback reliably.
Unlike many low cost netbooks, the HP Mini 110-3530nr comes with a six cell battery such as Fujitsu Lifebook C2310 Battery , Fujitsu FPCBP85 Battery , Fujitsu LifeBook P7010 Battery , Fujitsu FPCBP86 Battery , Fujitsu FMVNBP118 Battery , Fujitsu FPCBP69 Battery , Fujitsu Lifebook P5020 Battery , Fujitsu Lifebook P5010 Battery , Fujitsu FPCBP49 Battery , Fujitsu Lifebook P1030 Battery , Fujitsu LifeBook P1630 Battery , Fujitsu FPCBP164Z Battery pack rather than a three cell. This means that it has above average battery life for its price range but it still doesn't quite match the segments leaders. In video streaming tests, it was able to run for roughly four hours and forty-five minutes before going into standby mode. This should provide plenty of usage for the average netbook user. One downside to this larger battery is the weight of the laptop is just over three pounds which is a bit heavier but most probably won't notice the difference.
They keyboard design of the HP Mini 110-3530nr uses a flat key design that at first glace looks like an isolated layout but is not. While it is a very functional keyboard, it isn't quite as nice as those found on their other netbook models. The trackpad at least uses individual buttons rather than a button bar instead of the integrated buttons found on the 210 series. They are still relatively small but definitely easier to use even if they are a bit stiff.
