ホテルの近くに･･･　Near the hotel in Shanghai...

今回のホテルと地下鉄の最寄り駅の間に、一日中「うわぁ～ん」と音が鳴り響いているところがありました。

When I was walking from my hotel to the subway station, there was a place full of mysterious sound and I was wondering what makes the sound.

素敵な竹のかごをのぞいてみたら、バッタでした！

鈴虫よりも、トノサマバッタよりも大きいみたい。色も、トノサマバッタみたいなかんじです。

このかご、何に使うわけじゃないんだけど、ちょっと欲しかったです。

They are a kind of grasshoppers. They are in well made bamboo baskets. I was attracted with not only the grasshoppers but these baskets, too.

こんなふうに、歩道に虫の音が響いていました。

気づいてみると、ここはペット関係のお店が並ぶ地区だったようです。

There are pet shops which selling insects, fish, turtles and so on.

金魚や、亀などや、そのエサとか飼育ケースなど。

なんでもありそうです。

歩道から横道をはいったほうにも、なにやら人が流れていきます。

のぞいてみたら、ペット市場でした。

It seems you can find everything about pets here. And more shops are inside the big market.

中国の、おじいちゃんたちの趣味といえば、鳥。

毎朝公園に集まって、誰の鳥が一番いい声で啼くか、比べっこ。

こだわりの、水やエサ入れも、美しくこった物があり、美しい鳥かごはびっくりするくらい高いものがあります。

でも、鳥インフルエンザの不安が残る今は、近寄っちゃだめだよね･･･。

いつもなら、間違いなくここはうろうろしたと思うのですが、今回はがまんです。

The old men's very popular hobby is keeping birds in China. They gather in parks to compare whose birds are singing best. The birdcages, water pots, food pots, and all the things for birds are very beautiful and some are very expensive.

However, I thought about the bird flu, I didin't enter the market this time.

こおろぎやさんもありました。

There was a shop selling crickets.

さっきのバッタは、１匹10元（約170円）でしたが、こおろぎは1匹20元（340円）。だけど、6匹買えば100元だそうです。

丸い焼き物に入れて飼うみたいです。

お店のお兄さんが、長い棒でちょいちょいっとこおろぎにさわっていました。

The grasshoppers in the bamboo baskets are 10 yuan each, but these are 20 yuan each.

The round containers are for crickets. The shop keeper was touching crickets with a stick.

何をしているのかきいてみたら、「遊んでるの」だそうです。

どこをめざして触っているのかわからなかったのですが、お兄さんが棒で触ると、啼き始めます。

不思議～！！

触ったら、びっくりして啼きやみそうに思うのに、魔法みたいです。

I asked him what is he doing , and he said he is just having fun with them.

I didn't find where he touches, but, when he touches, crickets start singing! I thought if I touch like him, crickets feel fear and stop singing. It was like a magic!
