第96回米アカデミー賞の国際長編映画賞にノミネートされた『PERFECT DAYS』の監督のヴィム・ヴェンダースのインタビューをスペイン紙「バングアルディア」が掲載している。ヴェンダースは映画を作ったきっかけや制作の裏話を明かし、主演俳優の役所広司についてその人柄と演技力の両方を絶賛している。

当初はドキュメンタリーの案も…


ヴィム・ヴェンダースは、78歳にして現役だ。『パリ、テキサス』や『ベルリン・天使の詩』などの作品を手がけ、近年はドキュメンタリーや短編映画、ミュージック・ビデオに専念していたが、傑作『PERFECT DAYS』で再び長編映画を世に送り出した。

本作は、東京の公衆トイレの清掃員として働く孤独な中年男性の日常を丹念に描いた人情味あふれる美しくシンプルな物語。主人公の平山は、寝る前に20世紀の米国文学を代表する作家のウィリアム・フォークナーの作品を読み、フィルムカメラで木の写真を撮り、車の中でルー・リードやパティ・スミス、ヴァン・モリソンの曲を古いカセットで聴くことに喜びを感じている。

この平山役を見事に演じた役所広司は、第76回カンヌ国際映画祭の最優秀男優賞を受賞。さらに、本作は日本代表作品として米アカデミー賞の国際長編映画賞にノミネートされている。
