As an ardent anti-Nazi, he was also active in the resistance group "Rote Kapelle". In 1942, the Gestapo found in his house a suitcase with a short-wave transmitter. He was arrested and interrogated, but Roloff denied all involvement in the group. Later the Gestapo took him to the Spandau Prison but after several months he was miraculously released due to lack of evidence.
