The Petrodollar is Dead
On August 13, 1971, then US President Nixon removed the US dollar’s gold standard which allowed the international conversion of the dollar to gold, thereby reducing it to simple paper. In order to reintroduce value to the worthless paper dollar, the US signed a 50-year agreement with Saudi Arabia on June 8, 1974 to force oil purchases in US dollars, thereby creating the Petrodollar.
Well, the agreement expired this month and now Saudi Arabia will now sell oil in other currencies. Watch the dollar diminish in value as this starts to unfold…
