MOSCOW CONFRONTS CANNES
In Pool A last year’s IECL vice champion RC CANNES from France will be welcoming the strong team of Dinamo MOSCOW with Russian national players Ekaterina Gamova, Elena Godina and Maria Borodakova as well as Turkish national player Natalia Hanikoglu. Both teams have survived their first two matches undefeated, so whoever wins this encounter will secure first position in Pool A. Polish newcomer Muszynianka Fakro MUSZYNA, who have not yet won a match, will face the Turks from Vakifbank Gunes S. ISTANBUL. “It’s a crucial match for us”, declared MUSZYNA’s head coach Bogdan Serwinski with both teams fighting for third place. In Serwinski’s opinion the Turks are favourites as “they are more experienced”.

In Pool B Swiss leader Volero ZURICH will have the chance to seize another two points, thus assuring their first place, against Spain’s Hotel Cantur LAS PALMAS who are still waiting for their first victory. “LAS PALMAS have their back to the wall”, analysed ZURICH coach Stav Jacobi, “They can’t afford to lose any more matches. Although we are ranked first and the Spaniards are fourth, there is no big difference in level of play and it will not be easy. The next two games are of utter importance for us.” Dutch champion DELA Martinus AMSTELVEEN will be guest to Vini Monteschiavo JESI (ITA).

Pool C leader Scavolini PESARO from Italy will be welcoming Austrian IECL newcomer SVS Post SCHWECHAT on Wednesday. “All we can do is win against the Italian team”, claimed Austrian player Louise Seidl, “The most important is that we present ourselves courageous and bold.” Having both won and lost one match, respectively won and lost four sets, each, Turkish Eczacibasi ISTANBUL and Azerrail BAKU will be opposing one another in a direct clash on Wednesday. Eczacibasi manager Selcan Teoman announced that they are currently in a very busy match and travel schedule, nevertheless they know about the importance of the match. "We will fight to win the match and obtain an advantage. BAKU is a solid team which has been together for a long time. Our goal is to use home court advantage to take second place in the group."

IECL 2004/05 champion Foppapedretti BERGAMO (ITA), who is not surprisingly ahead in Pool D, is hosting the match against Croatian Mladost ZAGREB who has two defeats to book up-to-date. Currently second-ranked Spar TENERIFE Marichal, winner of the Indesit European Champions’ League 2003/04, will meet third ranked Winiary KALISZ from Poland on Wednesday night. In last year’s competition KALISZ defeated TENERIFE stopping the Spaniards from reaching the next round. However, head coach Claudio Lopes from Brazil doesn’t expect this to happen again as the team is a different one compared to last year. TENERIFE’s President Quico Cabrera stated that “it won’t be an easy match”, trusting in the supporters to cheer the Spanish team to victory.
