Typhoon ONDOY was a disaster that reminded me of Hurricane Katrina that struck New Orleans last 2005.
Yet, something more worst for it dumped 455 millimeters of rain in Quezon City alone
compared to the 250 millimeters of rain by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
Lots of lives were lost and properties washed out in a matter of 24 hours.
The aftermath effect was heart-wrenching and so are the stories of struggle
by some of my kababayans ( countrymen) who fought the wrath of nature
and managed to survive in the end.
You see.
With the whip of ONDOY's wrath, everyone was affected.
Rich and poor.
Ordinary to famous people.
Yet in spite of this tribulation. . . .
I am more awed than frustrated for all acts of kindness, camaraderie and bravery I have witnessed on T.V.
Poor, Average and Rich citizens from neighboring towns or baranggays helping another area
saving lives by paddling through flood just to save someone trapped, or give food to those stranded,
have once again showed how rich Filipino values are.
Strangers throwing rope to a group of people washed by the current.
A governor and mayor from a far away district who went to this certain town and personally save those families stranded on their roofs.
A celebrity who lend his speedboat to his co-worker.
And another celebrity who swam 5 feet flood just to bring milk to the child of a friend celebrity.
Countless people (individual and companies) extending their help through donations have flooded agencies.
All of these acts have lightened up and sparked HOPE among the FILIPINOS.
