Listening to : Girugamesh - ROCKER’S , smash!!, Mouja no Koushin
I remember Mao-shi commenting at Camil’s blog entry with the following phrase, “Call me an elitist if you want”, regarding kiddos drawn into Visual Kei without substantial idea on what VK is all about in the first place. That’s just exactly the right words I would like to loan from her today.
“Call me an Elitist if you want.”
And this statement goes to each and every individual who have been acting like a know-it-all or cloning my favorite Jrockers/Visual & Oshare Kei musicians whom when asked about that person or their music would end up gaping and is intolerably clueless, which had become more pronounced of late. It’s like they have just haphazardly stumbled upon this “certain artist” online and discovered that he’s under this genre of which is called, “Visual Kei” find him cool
discovered that there’s a faction who looks upon this person
realized that people who dressed up like that are seen as voguish and cool = so would end up idolizing the “Artist” superficially. P E R I O D.
He/She would then go on his rounds at conventions or gatherings, declaring his/her fandom~ness, dressed up as this “certain artist” with mismatched approach in dressing without the slightest idea that other creatures aside from him/her who knew the “artist” perceive him as a “social blunder”, a “faus pax” in Visual Kei. I do appreciate the effort given to pull off a distinctive character. Yet, Visual Kei is not just about declaring your love for it, IT’S ABOUT MUSIC! They’re craft as a musician. Those who admire them visually and do not go as far as discerning these artists based on their skills or what they can give is merely enough to send my nerves at the temple *popping*.
I do not intend to sound like a spoiled brat who wants her favorite Visual Kei bands all for herself and for her “eyes alone”. I may be erratically mean at some point but
I-AM-NOT-A-KNOW-IT-ALL-SELFISH-AND-HAUGHTY-BRAT
I just want these people to be on familiar terms with their stuff before engaging into something.
Yes. I am friggin’ sensitive indeed when it comes to things that interest me (scary huh?). I do understand that Visual Kei is visually enticing coz that is what they’re supposed to be in the first place. It is what separates them a part from the other genre and they are marketed in this manner. So it is not surprising to pay second glance at their pretty faces and flamboyant clothes. That is foreseeable. But fandom~ness doesn’t just end by merely admiring them on the surface.
It goes beyond that.
I don’t think I still need to spell it out here.
