Has anybody wondered what makes Hawaiian music so lovely? From the ukulele to the accoustic and steel guitar, there is a special  sound you can't hear anywhere else. I had always wondered until I asked a Hawaiian musician. He was a native of Honolulu where I was on vacation. He told me that many years ago the guitar was introduced to the Hawaiian's by the Portuguese as a gift. The only problem was is that the Portuguese forgot how to teach the Hawaiian's how to tune the guitar, so the Hawaiian's developed their own tuning system and that's why their guitars and ukulele's sound the way they do and so does their music.

This is one of my favorite views of Diamond Head on Waikiki Beach.  Whenever I visit, I enjoy walking the 2 and a half mile trip from the hotel to the volcano which has been inactive for about 150,000 years.
