This is a book.を疑問文にするとき、
isを主語Thisの前に持ってきて、Iを大文字、Tを小文字にして、最後のピリオドを？にします。
読み方は語尾を上げます。
This is a book? と言って語尾を上げても質問になります。
疑問文がすらすらと出てこないときは、
ただ語尾を上げればいいのです。
そうすると、質問なのだな、と受け取ってもらえます。
もう一度おさらいをすると、
文頭の this that it は大文字で始まりますが、
文のなかにはいると、すべて小文字になります。
疑問文なので、最後はピリオドではなく、必ず？（疑問符）をつけます。
疑問文に対する返事は、疑問文の主語がthis that it でも、
Yes, it is. No, it isn't. のように、主語がitになります。
Yes, it is a book. a bookを省略 → Yes, it is.
No, it is not a book. a bookを省略 → No, it is not.（No, it isn't.）

冠詞のルール
太陽とか地球のようにひとつしかない物には a anではなく、定冠詞のtheをつけます。
the sun太陽 the moon月 the earth 地球[ði əːrθ] となります。
母音[æ] [ɑ] [ə] [ʌ] [i] [e] [ɔ] [u]で始まる名詞の前の定冠詞は[ði]と発音するので、
the earthは [ði əːrθ]と発音します。
では、母音で始まる名詞の前のtheの読み方を練習しましょう。意味がすぐに浮かぶでしょうか。

And the first few lessons, we learned subject and verb.

When you are asking questions, the verb comes first.

So instead of saying “This is a book,” you say “Is that a book?”

So “is”, the verb, comes in the beginning of the sentence now.

And since it’s a question, when you answer the question, you always have to use either “Yes” or “No.”

And since it’s a question, you always have to add a question mark at the end of the question.

And when you answer, you can also shorten the sentence.
そして、答えるときには、センテンスを短縮することができます。
So you can say “Yes, it is a book.” and you can say “Yes, it’s a book” or simply you can just say “Yes, it is.”

「Yes, it’s a book」と言うことも、
単に「Yes, it is」と言うこともできます。
And when you answer “No,” you can say “No, it is not a book.” or “No, it’s not a book.” or “No, it isn’t.”

「No, it’s not a book.」あるいは、「No, it isn’t.」と言うこともできます。
So for answering “No” you can shorten: “No, it isn’t.”

But you can’t shorten “it is” to “it’s”: “Yes, it’s.” so that’s wrong, that doesn’t make sense.
