約束の地というのは神がアブラハムの子孫たちに与えると約束した土地、カナンの地で、すなわち現在のパレスチナ地域（現代イスラエル国一帯）のことです。
旧約聖書ではエジプトで奴隷となっていた古代ユダヤ人たちが、モーセに率いられてエジプトを脱出して約束の地を目指すのですが、
