19章

3 You should divide the territory of the land that Jehovah your God has given you to possess into three parts, and prepare the roads so that any manslayer can flee to one of those cities.
3 “You shall prepare roads for yourself, and divide into three parts the territory of your land which the LORD your God is giving you to inherit, that any manslayer may flee there.

4「そしてこれは，人を殺した者がそこに逃れて生きるべき場合である。すなわち，知らずに自分の仲間を打ち，それ以前にその者を憎んではいなかったとき，
4人を殺した者がそこにのがれて、命を全うすべき場合は次のとおりである。すなわち以前から憎むこともないのに、知らないでその隣人を殺した場合、
4殺人者がそこにのがれて生きることができる場合は次のとおり。知らずに隣人を殺し、以前からその人を憎んでいなかった場合である。
4 “Now this is what should take place regarding the manslayer who may flee there in order to live: When he strikes his fellow man unintentionally and he did not previously hate him;
4 “And this is the case of the manslayer who flees there, that he may live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, not having hated him in time past—

5 as when he goes with his fellow man into the forest to gather wood and he raises his hand to cut the tree with the ax, but the axhead flies off the handle and hits his fellow man and he dies, the manslayer should flee to one of these cities to live.
5 “as when a man goes to the woods with his neighbor to cut timber, and his hand swings a stroke with the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and strikes his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live;
5 as when a man goes into the forest with his friend to cut wood, and his hand swings the axe to cut down the tree, and the iron head slips off the handle and strikes his friend so that he dies—he may flee to one of these cities and live;
5 For instance, a man may go into the forest with his neighbor to cut wood, and as he swings his ax to fell a tree, the head may fly off and hit his neighbor and kill him. That man may flee to one of these cities and save his life.

6 Otherwise, in the heat of anger, the avenger of blood may chase after the manslayer, overtake him, and kill him, because the distance to the city was too far. However, he did not deserve to die, since he did not previously hate his fellow man.

7 That is why I am commanding you: ‘Set three cities apart.’

8「そして，あなたの神エホバが，父祖たちに誓われたとおりにあなたの領地を広げ，父祖たちに与えることを約束されたそのすべての土地を与えてくださったなら，
8あなたの神、主が先祖たちに誓われたように、あなたの領域を広め、先祖たちに与えると言われた地を、ことごとく賜わる時、――

8 “If Jehovah your God enlarges your territory as he swore to your forefathers and he has given you all the land that he promised to give to your forefathers

9それは，わたしが今日命じるこのすべてのおきてをあなたが守ってそれを行ない，あなたの神エホバを愛して常にその道を歩むからであるが，その時あなたは，自分のため，これら三つのほかにさらに三つの都市を加えなければならない。

9 because you carefully follow all these laws I command you today—to love the LORD your God and to walk always in obedience to him—then you are to set aside three more cities.

10あなたの神エホバが相続地として与えてくださるあなたの土地の中で罪のない血が流されることのないためである。血の罪があなたに帰せられてはならないのである。
10これはあなたの神、主が与えて嗣業とされる地のうちで、罪のない者の血が流されないようにするためである。そうしなければ、その血を流したとがは、あなたに帰するであろう。
10あなたの神、主が相続地としてあなたに与えようとしておられる地で、罪のない者の血が流されることがなく、また、あなたが血の罪を負うことがないためである。
10 In this way no innocent blood will be spilled in your land that Jehovah your God is giving you as an inheritance, and no bloodguilt will come upon you.
10 “lest innocent blood be shed in the midst of your land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and thus guilt of bloodshed be upon you.
10 “So innocent blood will not be shed in the midst of your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, and bloodguiltiness be on you.
10 Do this so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land, which the LORD your God is giving you as your inheritance, and so that you will not be guilty of bloodshed.

11「しかし，仲間の者を憎んでいる者がいて，その者が待ち伏せしていてこれに躍りかかり，その魂に致命的な打撃を加えたために彼が死に，当人はこれらの都市の一つに逃れたのであれば，

12 the elders of his city should then summon him from there and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, and he must die.

13あなたの目はこれを哀れむべきではない。あなたは罪のない血に対する罪科をイスラエルから除き去らねばならない。これはあなたが幸いを得るためである。

13 You should not feel sorry for him, and you must remove the guilt of innocent blood out of Israel, so that it may go well for you.
13 “Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.
13 “You shall not pity him, but you shall purge the blood of the innocent from Israel, that it may go well with you.
13 Show no pity. You must purge from Israel the guilt of shedding innocent blood, so that it may go well with you.

14「あなたの神エホバが与えて取得させてくださる土地であなたが相続するその相続地の境界を先祖たちが定めたなら，あなたは仲間の者の境界標をずらしてはならない。
14あなたの神、主が与えて獲させられる地で、あなたが継ぐ嗣業において、先祖の定めたあなたの隣人の土地の境を移してはならない。

14 “When you receive your inheritance in the land that Jehovah your God is giving you to possess, you must not move your neighbor’s boundary marker from the place where the ancestors set the boundaries.
14 “You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which the men of old have set, in your inheritance which you will inherit in the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.
14 “You shall not move your neighbor’s boundary mark, which the ancestors have set, in your inheritance which you will inherit in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess.
14 Do not move your neighbor’s boundary stone set up by your predecessors in the inheritance you receive in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess.

15「人の犯すどんな罪の場合であれ，何かのとがまた罪に関しただ一人の証人が立ってこれを責めるべきではない。二人の証人の口または三人の証人の口によってその件は定められるべきである。

15 “No single witness may convict another for any error or any sin that he may commit. On the testimony of two witnesses or on the testimony of three witnesses the matter should be established.

15 One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offense they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

16暴虐をたくらむ証人がある人に敵して立ち，これに背きの責めを負わせようとする場合，

19 you should do to him just as he had schemed to do to his brother, and you must remove what is bad from your midst.

21そして，あなたの目は哀れみ見てはいけない。魂には魂，目には目，歯には歯，手には手，足には足である。
