グレイハウンドといえば、ドッグレースに使われている犬ですが、
その彼らに私たちが知らない悲惨な事実が、
あることをみなさんにお知らせします。

スペインのグレイハンドはガルゴと呼ばれ主に狩りに使われます。
スペインでは毎年、”虐待され”殺されるガルゴが約60000（
上回る年もある）。狩りの終わりの時期には苦しませて殺す程、次
の年の狩りが良い狩りになると信じている。 石でなぐって穴に落
としたり、木などに首をつりゆっくりと縛って殺したり、生きたま
ま焼いたり、捨てたり などの虐待殺しが後を足ちません。

ました。足を折る事で犬は戻ってこれないし、歩いて助けを求める
事もできないのです。長い苦しみ、そして死がまつだけなのです。

In Spain, when dogs are no longer of any use for hunting, they are disposed of in a number of ways. One is to dump him/her in the countryside with broken legs so he/she cannot walk home. The dog dies a slow painful death.......

What most people don't know is that most practices will kill the dogs for free. So they get free blood and the greyhound trainers/owners get a free kill. What a 'nice' little exchange
Here is our position -
1. The Veterinary industry have become collaborators in a dog killing industry and taking the blood of greyhounds who have been discarded by the racing industry is NOT ethical. The vet industry have become reliant on a dog killing industry for blood products which is no longer acceptable.
2. The Vet industry are making it easy and secret to dispose of the thousands and thousands of discarded greyhounds. And the vet industry have an invested interest in seeing the continuation of the large numbers of greyhounds being discarded.
3. Don't take the blood from any animal unless you plan to re-home it.
4. The vet industry have not protected their staff by insisting that they carry out this disgusting practice.
5. Ban greyhound racing.
You may be interested to know that VSS in Logan, Qld makes vet nurses sign employment contracts that they must bleed greyhounds. The reason they did this is because staff were unhappy with the practice. Instead of changing the practice they bullied their staff in to doing it. VSS have also have gone to a litigation lawyer as people have been sharing information about them on facebook.
AEC emergency vet clinic chain have a blood policy of taking blood from discarded greyhounds.

What you can do -
1. Ask your vet clinic and emergency vet clinic where they get their blood.
2. If you have a healthy, young dog offer to donate your dog's blood. Some ethical vets will even offer to donate the money they make to a greyhound rescue group.
3. We encourage vet satff to band together against this practice and also take a stand against greyhound racing.もっと見る

なんと、獣医が加担しているビジネスです。グレイハンドの血を抜き取って売るというビジネス。他の犬の輸血に使う為に必要の無くなったグレイハウンドから全ての血を体から抜きとり殺すのです。そして捨てられるのです。たくさんグレイハンドの血が獣医の間で出回り使用されているのが現状。ビジネスとなっている訳です。

ほんの一握りのラッキーな犬達だけが愛護団体にって保護されアダプトされるのです。

Thousands of greyhounds discarded every year.
Where do they end up?
Many end up being bled out in a vet clinics, particularly emergency vet clinics before being killed. They use this blood for dogs that need blood transfusions and they can make considerable money out of the re-sale of this blood. Some vet clinics keep taking the blood until the die, that is they are never given the green dream.
Another dirty secret of the racing industry.
The other aspect of this is compassionate vet staff can be victims as well. Imagine becoming a a vet nurse because you love animals and you find yourself working at a vet clinic that does this? You are told to do it or you loose your job. You try and help greyhounds when you can, but you can't help all of them. Many vet nurses are powerless and often they can only do so much.That is the reality for many people and it can cause great emotional stress while in that position.
This is our philosophy;
- Don't take the blood of any animal unless you plan to re-home it/ If you don't have enough blood then set up a donor program. Don't become reliant on an industry that kills and exploits animals.
- The vet industry need to speak out on behalf of their employees as they are being made to keep secret this disgusting, unethical activity. If they really care fo rthe well being of their staff and care for animals - don't do it!
- The should speak out against a dog killing industry as well.
- Ask your vet clinic and your emergency vet clinic where they source their blood.
- Most greyhounds are universal blood donors and if you have a young greyhound who is not freaked out by vet clinics, you may wish to offer your dog's blood. They may offer to donate the money they get from this to a greyhound adoption group. Vet Dr Ray Baxter ( Big Brother fame) has offered to do this.
