5月3日は、祝日の「憲法記念日」です。

日本国憲法の施行を記念し、国の成長を期する日です。

May 3rd is a national holiday, Constitution Memorial Day.

It is a day to commemorate the enforcement of the Constitution of Japan and to hope for the growth of the country.

憲法記念日は、昭和２３年の「国民の祝日に関する法律」の制定当初に定められた計９日の「国民の祝日」の一つであり、

「日本国憲法の施行を記念し、国の成長を期する」日とされています。

Constitution Memorial Day is one of the nine “national holidays” established when the “Act on National Holidays” was enacted in 1948.

It is said to be a day to "commemorate the enforcement of the Constitution of Japan and to hope for the growth of the country."

日本国憲法は、昭和21年11月3日に公布され、半年後の昭和22年5月3日に施行されました。憲法記念日は、その施行を記念したものです。

The Constitution of Japan was promulgated on November 3, 1946 and came into effect on May 3, 1947, half a year later. Constitution Memorial Day commemorates its enactment.

祝日法の制定時の報告書１では、憲法記念日について、「第一にとりあげられねばならないことは疑う余地のないところであった」とされています。

他方で、その日付けについては、「憲法実施の日の五月三日をとるか、公布の日の十一月三日をとるかについては、相当に意見があった」と当時の議論が記されています。

■舞台向かって左にあるのが、左方（唐楽による舞楽）に使われる大太鼓です。

縁飾りには、阿吽の昇龍、鼓面が三つ巴で、竿先に日輪がついています。
