2月11日は、祝日の「建国記念の日」です。

「建国をしのび、国を愛する心を養う」日です。

February 11th is the National Foundation Day, a national holiday.

It is a day to "remember the founding of our nation and cultivate a love for our nation."

建国記念の日は、建国をしのび、国を愛し、国の発展を期するという国民がひとしく抱いている感情を尊重して、国民の祝日とされました。

National Foundation Day was designated as a national holiday to respect the feelings that all people share: remembering the founding of the country, loving the country, and hoping for the development of the country.

祝日法では、建国記念の日となる具体的な日付は規定されず、政令で定めることとされるとともに、その政令の制定に当たっては、内閣総理大臣は、政府に設ける建国記念日審議会に諮問し、その答申を尊重して立案することとされました。

The National Holidays Act does not stipulate a specific date for National Foundation Day, but rather it is determined by a Cabinet Order.In enacting the Cabinet Order, the Prime Minister consults with the National Foundation Day Council set up within the government. It was decided to respect the report and formulate the plan.

同審議会は、内閣総理大臣の諮問に応じ、参考人からの意見聴取や全国各地での公聴会も行いながら審議を進め、昭和４１年１２月、建国記念の日を２月１１日とすることを答申しました。これを受け、政府は同月、建国記念の日となる日を定める政令（昭和４１年政令第３７６号）を定め、建国記念の日は、２月１１日となりました。

In response to the advice of the Prime Minister, the council proceeded with its deliberations while listening to opinions from witnesses and holding public hearings across the country, and decided in December 1966(Japanese calendar Showa 41 years) that National Foundation Day would be February 11th. and that answered. In response to this, in the same month, the government issued a Cabinet Order (Cabinet Order No. 376 of 1966) specifying the day to be National Foundation Day, and National Foundation Day was set on February 11th.

その際、内閣総理大臣から、この日が「遠く我が国の成り立ちをしのび、先人の文化遺産の恩恵を思い、国を愛し、国の発展を願う心を養う大きなよすがともなりますことを、国民の皆様と共に心から期待するものであります」などとする談話が発出されました。

At that time, the Prime Minister said,

"We hope that this day will bring great joy to people who can remember the origins of our country in the distance, think of the blessings of the cultural heritage of our ancestors, love our country, and cultivate a spirit of desire for its development.

This is something that I, together with the Japanese people, sincerely hope."
