Changes in vacation policy for coaches

The State Board will consider a proposal from the athletic directors at Boise State, Idaho and Idaho State to change the way coaches accrue vacation.

Currently, the coaches are able to accumulate vacation balances that must be paid when the coach leaves the school voluntarily or involuntarily. It leaves the schools with a financial liability.

athletic directors have requested that coaches not earn or accrue annual leave, but rather take vacation with the approval of the AD as is the case in Washington and Utah, according to board documents.

The change would give head and assistant coaches 192 hours of annual vacation, but it would be it or lose it, meaning no accrual or cash out for unused leave.
