この「同盟国」や「さまざまな発言」、「漏洩情報」の主がアメリカとトランプ政権を指していることは明らかだが、クレバは退任後の現在もウクライナ外交のキーマンの一人で、その彼の見るところ、停戦工作は全然進んでいないもののようである。
むしろ悪手を打ち続け、戦争は長期化しそうな様相である。これについては別の所で読んだ次のような引用がある。
“Whoever wants to spend less during a campaign, spends more; nothing requires such money and such unrestrained spending as a campaign; the more abundant the supplies, the sooner the campaigns end; whoever does not take this into account for the sake of saving money, drags out the matter and spends incomparably more. Therefore, the most dangerous thing is to begin a campaign when there is no large amount of money, and release funds from time to time; this is a way not to end a campaign, but to feed it.”

これはプーチンもそうであったし、ウクライナを支援していたバイデン政権もそうであった。ダボス会議に集っていた経済人たちは、同席していたトヨタや日立の会長も含め、ことこの分野においては信じがたいほどの無能者揃いであった。トランプは言うまでもない。
しかし、同じ歴史家の言葉として、この戦争がゼレンスキーを脅し上げた程度では終わらないことについては、次のような指摘もある。

トランプはゼレンスキーが大嫌いだが、今回のバチカン訪問でも来賓席の最前列に着座した彼には拍手一つなかったが、同じく来迎したウクライナ大統領には喝采の嵐だった。が、彼が横車を押してウクライナの指導者を放逐したとしても、それで戦争が終わるわけではなかったこと、ゼレンスキーの方がまだマシであったと嗟嘆することになることは想像に難くない。
なお、トランプ政治については、米国内でも批判の声がある。
