Chicago Bears' Full 2013 Seven Round Mock Draft
The Chicago Bears have just announced the hiring of Marc Trestman as their new head coach. This will kick off a new era for the Bears as Trestman is an offensive mind, and he looks to drastically improve the Bears' offense, and team in every way. One of the first things that he will be judged by is the upcoming NFL draft, as he and Emery will have to find good, valuable players to bring into Chicago. Brian Urlacher's days as Chicago's middle linebacker are most likely coming to an end soon. It may be time to start the Ogletree era as soon as this upcoming season. Ogletree is a strong, solid tackler, as he finished with 112 tackles, three sacks, and an interception for the year. He did all this while missing four games. He truly has the ability to make an impact at the NFL level, as he is a great athlete who is not afraid of making a big hit. Like Brian Urlacher, Ogletree is a former safety turned linebacker, so he still the has coverage skills and instincts a Bears middle linebacker needs. Obviously the Bears need offensive line help, and if Kyle Long is still on the board when the Bears pick in the second round, they should snatch him up. He is 6'7, and 300 pounds, and incredibly capable of playing left tackle in the NFL, which is a positon the Bears need an upgrade at. He comes from a family of defensive ends in Hall of Famer Howie Long, and former number two overall pick Chris Long. Kyle has grown up with defensive ends around him, so he knows how they think, and can stop them well. He could be able to contribute immediately to the Bears' offensive line.
Round Three: Traded to the Miami Dolphins for Brandon Marshall
Round Four, Pick 114: Travis Kelce, Tight End, Cincinnati.
The tight end position is one that the Bears need to upgrade as well. Kellen Davis is just not the answer despite his physical talent and size. Kelce is an interesting option for the Bears, as he is big, at 6'6 and 260 pounds, and can catch the ball very well. He is rather athletic, and would make for a dependable target in the middle of the field for Jay Cutler. Kelce averaged 16 yards per catch on his way to catching 45 balls for 722 yards on the year. He could also be a good red zone target for Cutler, as he finished with eight touchdown catches. Kelce is a player that could make an impact immediately for the Bears, and turn into a dependable tight end for years to come.
Round Five, Pick 146: Hugh Thornton, Offensive Guard, Illinois.
If Hugh Thornton makes it to round five, which chances are pretty good that he might, Chicago should not waste much time drafting him. Thornton has the size at 6'5, 310 pounds to be a good offensive lineman at the next level. Thornton could have gone as high as the third round, but the poor season from the University of Illinois hurts his draft stock, as he did not play as well as he should have on the year. He could make a good backup guard to start with, however, and eventually become a decent starter in the NFL. This pick is mostly for depth, so do not expect an immediate impact from Thornton.
Round Six, Pick 178: Mario Benavides, Center, Louisville.
Benavides is a player that can be the definition of technique. He does not have the elite strength of some of the other offensive linemen entering the draft this year, but that did not stop him from being a four year starter at Louisville. Benavides could push Roberto Garza as soon as this upcoming season for the center spot, but under no means should he take over as the starter this soon. With more strength added to his 6'4 frame, Benavides could eventually become a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the line. With the Bears having little depth on the offensive line, this is also a depth pick for them. Garza does not have much left in the tank, and if Benavides gets Replica Sunglasses a few years to improve, he can take over for Garza once Roberto retires.
Round Seven, Pick 210: Marquess Wilson, Wide Receiver, Washington State.
Wilson ended his career in a very controversial way, quitting the Washington State football team with three games left. Wilson accused the coaching staff of abuse after being suspended by the team, and said he was done playing there. This severely hurt his draft stock, as before the season began, Wilson was considered a borderline first round draft pick. The Bears should take a chance on Wilson however, as his talent is so great that he could make an impact immediately, even as a seventh round draft pick. While he only caught 52 passes for 813 yards and five touchdowns on the year, his sophomore year saw him catch a Washington State record 82 passes for 1,388 yards, and 12 touchdowns. Wilson is a big body at 6'4, but needs to put on more weight as, though he's listed at 185 pounds, he looks to be more around 175 on tape.
