They are dedicated, unswerving, sometimes dangerous, multiplying at an alarming rate, and a huge part of the success of "Twilight." While this could apply to the series' fictional vampires, it more accurately describes the books' devoted fans who, adorned in various T-shirts buttons, and other merchandise, helped push "Twilight" to a $70.6 million box office opening weekend.

More than 17 million copies of the four books in the series have been sold since the 2005 release of "Twilight." Thousands of fan sites fill the Web and there are even a few "Twilight" podcasts in which fans can indulge in thorough analytical discussion of the vampire romance novels, or at least discuss how cute Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are in their roles as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. The growing fan population and excitement about the movie's release even spawned midnight book release parties across the country this summer for the release of the fourth and final novel, "Breaking Dawn."

Fans celebrated the series' transition to the big screen by filling area theaters Thursday night for the midnight release.

"It was ridiculous. There were so many people there. We walked in at 11:30, and just the amount of cars there were ridiculous. There was a lot of screaming and cheering and crying and laughing, and Kid Shoes more screaming, and more crying," said Alden junior Haley Phillips, who saw the movie at the Transit Regal.

Fans had very high expectations for the film adaptation. For many fans, every scene must be scrutinized for the smallest inconsistency and some fans were all too eager to call the movie out on its imperfections.

"It was pretty much everything that I expected, except that they took out a few of my favorite parts, which made me extremely mad, and they also altered a lot of stuff. They took out like three whole chapters, and they were, of course, my favorite chapters," said Haley.

Other fans were even more critical, pointing out even the tiniest of differences between the film and their adored book.

"There were a lot of parts that weren't in there, or were changed. Like, she was supposed to have an old ancient computer in her room, not an iMac! They didn't show that much of the other Cullens, either," said Alden junior Jessica Ostrowski.

Most fans seemed to genuinely love the film simply because it brought their favorite story to the screen.

"I know some people are disappointed, but I loved it. It's the best movie I've ever seen. It's really hard to make a movie based on a book and what I thought was going to be a small film turned out to be a huge film. It's just amazing," said Sacred Heart freshman Anne Taylor, 15.

There is an often preconceived notion that only obsessed teenage girls in love with Edward Cullen enjoy these books and will be the only ones who will turn up at the movie theaters to see the film.

Lancaster senior Kevin Au, 17, does not fit the typical "Twilight" fan profile. He read "Twilight" after a girl he knew suggested it to him, and he liked it enough to take three friends, none of them "Twilight" readers, with him to see the film.

"Guys like 'Twilight' because it's thrilling, kind of. It keeps you going. It's suspenseful. It could teach guys to be nicer to their girlfriends," said Kevin. "The movie was really good. They cut out some parts, but it was still around the same thing. But the book was a lot better."

MENU

Nice and fishy! I'm trying to recall if they had anything that didn't live under water on the menu and though I'm sure they did, what I most remember is the many different ways they prepared the many different fish. I love fish, so I didn't care.

ATMOSPHERE

Right on the inlet! Since it was dark, we couldn't see the water, but I knew it was right out there and looking pretty. Decorated festively Fendi Handbags with lights and in a neat space, Mangrove Mattie's has an unpretentious but elegant air. This is a place to take the parents for dinner or someone cute that you're trying to impress.

OUR FAVORITE FOOD/PRICE

Utah Leather

I'm partial to crab-stuffed anything, so I'm voting for the special I had, crab-stuffed grouper in a lobster sauce ($23.99). The crab was amazing as was the lobster sauce. I got a side of veggies, which were nicely seasoned and a side salad. My friend had a huge order of snow crab legs ($20.99) that was also good.

REASON TO GO

Location, location, location.

SERVICE

Our server Chris was incredible. He was perfectly attentive, knew the menu inside-out, could make wine selections simple and really seemed to take pride in his high-quality service. He was attentive, polite, professional and great.

NOISE LEVEL

Monogram Dentelle

It was fairly quiet.

KID FRIENDLY

They have a kid's menu with steak, spaghetti, pasta, etc., as well as high-chairs.
