Claire: So Professor Kahn, do you think there's a quick tip or a shortcut to acquire any language?

Kahn: No, I don't think so. There are so many books and language-teaching methods with such catchphrases as "easy way", but to acquire any language, you need to go through countless cycles of learning, memorizing and practicing.

Claire: But I guess some people are better at mastering a language than others…

Kahn: In order to improve any foreign language, you have to be…for lack of a better word…adventurous.

Claire: Could you elaborate on that, please?

Kahn: We all have to remember that language learning involves plenty of adventures you encounter new words, new alphabet, new grammar, new culture…and the most important of all, new people. Once you get a grasp of the language, you get to know new people, communicate with entirely new groups of people. But these new, interesting people won't come to you. You have to go to them.

Claire: I see.

Kahn: So you have to be ready to go and meet these people, talk to them, and share some time with them. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Every failure is a stepping stone to success.
