Niketown at NiteCamped outside of Niketown for the past two days, a growing number of young men are being lured by a special promotional sale of Nike's signature Air Jordan shoes or the company's collectible Air Max 95. Friday. The sale is part of promotion for the collector shoe publication Sole Collector, and includes showcases of collectible sneakers, a DJ playing hip music, and an auction of Nike products to benefit athletic programs for local youth. The event and the lure of Nike Air Max the shoes was enough to draw Hardy Muanza to fly to Seattle from France to be one of the first in line on Tuesday, complete with a tent and folding camp chairs he shared with other collectors, such as Michael Miscannon, who flew in from Orlando, or Chad Jones from New York."We've got people here from Air Jordan 13 Retro everywhere," Miscannon said. "New Jersey, you name it, every part of the country. We're all here. They will have these events where they release these limited sneakers, but only at Nike Lunar Haze these events."While they can't wait to get first crack at the shoes, which retail for about $140 with a resale value placed at between $800 to Air Jordan 12 $1,000 for collectors, the camping visitors on the sidewalk haven't taken kindly to the cool Seattle spring weather.Miscannon explained that the 200 or so limited edition shoes on sale Friday go just one pair to a customer, but he said the journey will be worth it for him. He plans to keep whatever he buys in Seattle and not resell them, preferring to wear his limited edition shoes as Air Jordan 9 Retro a badge of pride.Still, the weather was a concern Thursday night as the Nike Shoes wind chill pushed temperatures close to freezing."It's been very cold," he said. "I have four or five shirts on, two pair of pants, four socks. We came as prepared as possible. They say it might snow, and that's the last thing we need."Muanza pulled out his French passport to prove he had made the trek all the way Air Jordan 9 Retro to Seattle to spend his week on the Air Jordan 17 sidewalk waiting for new shoes. His prized shoes are the Jordan 5 Aqua, a color and make that is nearly impossible to find elsewhere.Asked what he thought of Seattle on Nike Air Force 1 his first visit to the city, Muanza admitted he hadn't seen much of the sites: "It's cold, and I'm thinking Kids Shoes I'm never going to be here no more. But the people are very cool, very nice people."What makes the lure of Air Jordans worth such an effort?"It's the limited quality," Miscannon said. "It's the fact Air Jordan 19 that you're not going to be seeing everybody on the streets wearing these."Jones from New York, who carries the nickname "The Guy," had a more philosophical answer:"Jordans were the beginning. It it wasn't for Michael Jordan, nobody would have ever lined up for this, and Nike might not have even made it as a business. That's why Nike gave him free reign of the Jordan brand and made it a separate entity. It it wasn't for Jordan, Nike might never have had its success."Even though Jordan is retired from basketball now, his legend still lives on in his signature shoes."Everybody gets started with wearing Jordans, especially us older kids who got to watch Jordan play," Miscannon said. "I got to watch him Air Jordan XX8 shoot the last shot in the Jordan 14s or win the dunk contest in the Jordan 3s."It's the inspiration behind the shoes," Jones added. "You remember what Jordan did in those shoes and you just want to take a piece of that history. You might not be able to Air Jordan 3 Retro do the same things he did, but it will inspire you to do something better than what you have been doing."So, if you're so inspired, there are still places in line left for the taking Air Jordan Others just head to the rear of the bundled up crowd at Sixth and Pine.
