ーーー英作文の題材ーーー京都大学2010年前期
子どものころには列車での旅行というのは心躍るものであった。年に一度,夏休みに祖父母の家に行くときには、何時間も列車に乗ると考えただけでわくわくした。今では長距離列車を見ても,子どものころのように気分が高まることはないが、大きな駅のホームに日本各地に向かうさまざまな列車が並んでいる光景は鮮明に覚えているし,発車の瞬間の独特の高揚感を思い出すこともある。

子どものころには列車での旅行というのは心躍るものであった。
ー気になる表現
子どものころ → 「when l was child」より as a child の方が 一般論を述べる時には口語的にならなくて良い。
1文目解答例
As a child,it was exciting to travel by train.
2文目
年に一度,夏休みに祖父母の家に行くときには、何時間も列車に乗ると考えただけでわくわくした。

Once a year,when l visited my grandparents during (または in ) my summer vacation, l was thrilled just that l would be on the train for hours.
☆excitedの重複仕様を避ける意味で thrilled を使用。

子どものころのように気分が高まることはない → 以下の手順で英訳しましょう。
基本形 l was excited when l was a child.
省略なしで英訳すると l am not as excited as l was (excited) when l was a child. ☆実装する時は （）を省略
または (以前のように気分が高まらない という意味で）
I am not as excited as l used to be.
