今日は大英博物館に行ってきました。
イギリスは博物館が無料のところが多く気軽に行けるので、
メソポタミア文明辺りから、ゆっくり時間をかけて見ていこうと思っています。
メソポタミアについて、次のような説明分がありました。
Mesopotamia, a Greek name meaning 'between the rivers', refers to the land bordered by the rivers Tigris and Euphrates as they flow though the modern countries of Iraq and eastern Syria. This region is divided between the rain-fed, rolling plains of the north, and the flat landscape of the south which depended on artificial irrigation for farming.
ギリシャ語で「川の間」を意味するメソポタミアは、現在のイラクとシリア東部を流れるチグリス川とユーフラテス川に隣接する土地を指します。この地域は、北部の起伏のある天水農耕平野と、人工灌漑に依存していた南部の平坦な平野に分けられます。
文法的には難しいものはありませんが、rain-fed（天水）、artificial irrigation（人口灌漑）など普段使わない単語が出てくるので勉強になります！
