First Coffee Hour Spring semester 2012
24th of April JOINUS had its first Coffee Hour of the new semester 2012.
Since it was the first one, and a lot of new students had arrived at Rikkyo and would come have a look, we decided to call this version (or at least the presentation part) version Ikebukuro/Rikkyo University. We decided that, instead of searching it far away from home, it would be a nice idea to introduce the neighbourhood around school to the new students.
We made an event on facebook, at which about 30+ people attended… the reality however appeared to be a bit different. About 70 people showed up, so we had to do a lot of last minute extra preparations. The people barely fit in the classroom we reserved, but we somehow made it. A lot of people went home or had other activities planned after the presentation, so that made the organization of the second round a whole lot easier.
But first things first. The presentation was held by Mika and Bert, who introduced a whole lot of places in Ikebukuro to hang out, eat, shop or drink. They also revealed some places at school that could be considered less known amongst the new students. The pop quiz also revealed some background about Ikebukuro and Sunshine 60, which, as it turned out, used to be a prison!
During the break we had some snacks and drinks, and when about half the people left, we could start round two, which was presented by Hiyoshi, Jihyeon and Joe (for English translation, including authentic British accent!!). This round consisted of a quiz, covering different topics and involving countries all around the globe. There was even a prize to win, but we will have to wait till next Coffee Hour to see what it is.
The night ended in two dinner parties, one going for Korean Barbeque in Shinkokubo, famous for its Korean Town. The other one stayed at Ikebukuro to enjoy dinner close to home. Overall a very successful first Coffee Hour.
