Detection of TTR Amyloid in the Conjunctiva Using a Novel Fluorescent Ocular Tracer

J Pilotte, AS Huang, S Khoury, X Zhang, A Tafreshi… - Translational Vision Science …, 2024
Background: Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) is a significant cause of
cardiomyopathy and other morbidities in the elderly and Black Americans. ATTR can
be treated with new disease-modifying therapies, but large shortfalls exist in its
diagnosis. The objective of this study was to test whether TTR amyloid can be
detected and imaged in the conjunctiva using a novel small-molecule fluorescent
ocular tracer, with the implication that ATTR might be diagnosable by a simple eye …

[HTML] Programming temporal stiffness cues within extracellular matrix hydrogels for modelling cancer niches

G Major, M Ahn, WW Cho, M Santos, J Wise, E Phillips… - Materials Today Bio, 2024
Extracellular matrix (ECM) stiffening is a common occurrence during the progression
of many diseases, such as breast cancer. To accurately mimic the pathophysiological
context of disease within 3D in vitro models, there is high demand for smart
biomaterials which replicate the dynamic and temporal mechanical cues of diseased
states. This study describes a preclinical disease model, using breast cancer as an
example, which replicates the dynamic plasticity of the tumour microenvironment by …

A role of platelet C-type lectin-like receptor-2 and its ligand podoplanin in vascular biology

K Suzuki-Inoue, N Tsukiji - Current Opinion in Hematology, 2024
Summary The platelet CLEC-2/LEC PDPN interaction prevents blood/lymphatic
vessel mixing at active remodeling sites of the blood/lymphatic system, but not in
steady-state adult mice. This interaction also regulates vascular integrity when
vascular permeability increases before and after birth.

[PDF] Podoplanin expression in osteochondral grafts in a rabbit model

R Honma, M Maruyama, Y Takakubo, M Takagi
Podoplanin (PDPN) is a type I transmembrane O-glycoprotein, which is expressed
specifically in lymphatic endothelial cells and has been widely used as a marker for
lymphatic vessels. PDPN expression has been reported in chondrocytes and
osteocytes. However, there are no reports of PDPN expression in osteochondral
grafts. In this study, PDPN expression in osteochondral grafts of a rabbit model was
analyzed using anti-rabbit PDPN monoclonal antibody.
