Title:

High-Performance and Low-Power SRAMs Design in Nano-Scale CMOS Technology

Abstract:

Embedded SRAMs play increasingly important role in both high-performance multi-media processors and low-power mobile applications. As Moore's law drives the CMOS technology feature size well below 100nm regime, there are many new technology and design challenges facing today's SRAM development. In this talk, the key scaling challenges in SRAM cell design will be first evaluated in light of the technology scaling. Various design techniques in mitigating the scaling difficulties including read stability and write margin will be presented. Power optimization techniques will also be discussed from both process and design perspectives.? On-die cache design example? for the state-of-the-art CPUs will also be presented.

Biography:

Dr. Kevin Zhang is an Intel Fellow and Director of Advance Memory Circuit and Technology Integration at Intel Logic Technology Development, where he is responsible for embedded memory technology development for Intel's future microprocessor and communication products. He has led the design and validation of logic and SRAM technology vehicles from 90nm to 45nm technology generations at Intel. Dr. Zhang joined Intel in 1997 and worked on low-power and high-speed circuit development for mobile CPUs prior to his current role. He currently holds over 40 U.S. patents and has published over 30 technical papers in the field of semiconductor technology and integrated circuits, including leading conferences such as IEDM, ISSCC, and VLSI Symposium. Dr. Zhang currently is a member of Technical Program Committee of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference. Zhang received his B.S. degree from Tsinghua University in Beijing in 1987 and his Ph.D. from Duke University in 1994, both in electrical engineering.
