In the path to Nirvana, the state of ultimate happiness, the most important role is played by words.
Indeed, a perceptive person hears the rare words of the Dharma in this world, comprehends their true origin, and, if they have the right karmic conditions, attains liberation and becomes a Buddha.
For this reason, it is taught that Buddhist practitioners should be 'people with keen hearing'.
Such a person does not concern themselves with who said the words or how they were spoken, but focuses on the words themselves.
They are not swayed by words and remain calm.
Therefore, it is said that a person with keen hearing is not tainted by words.
In essence, no matter what they hear, they:
“do not hear it as it is, do not hear it incorrectly, do not ignore it, nor do they pretend not to hear it.”
In this manner, they listen with an attitude that.
Thus, when they hear the rare words of the Dharma in this world, they are able to perceive that these words are not ordinary.
Furthermore, they come to realize that these words are the very expression of the true kindness of all Buddhas, and ultimately, they attain Buddhahood.
