Dell 2013 Inspiron 15R Touch 15.6-inch Laptop PC

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist of the Hp laptop battery

The 2013 Dell Inspiron 15R touch laptop essentially looks almost no different from the 2012 version. It is a bit slimmer than the past model but is almost a pound lighter in weight which is welcome. It still features the same brushed aluminum exterior and deck which a mix of silver and darker anodized colors.

The big difference between this 2013 redesign and the past models is the internal processor used. It has been upgraded to the 4th generation Intel Core i5-4200U dual core processor. Now, this processor is one of the lower end of the new generation of processors and would most likely compare to a Core i5-3317U found in most ultrabooks because of its lower 1.6GHz clock speed. Performance wise, it is an improvement over the past ultrabook processors but it still falls short of many tasks when compared to more traditional laptop processors. Having said that, for most people the processor will probably provide them enough performance for their average tasks but for those looking to use it for more demanding tasks like digital video, they probably will want to wait for a more powerful processor with battery like dell 3117J battery , Dell 8K1VG Battery , Dell Alienware M11x Battery , Dell Alienware M14x Battery , Dell PT6V8 Battery , Dell R7PND Battery , Dell PG6RC Battery , Dell Precision M4400 Battery , Dell Precision M4600 Battery , Dell Latitude E5420 Battery , Dell Latitude E5220 Battery , Dell Latitude E6420 Battery Special Edition version. The processor is matched up with 8GB of DDR3 memory to provide it with a smooth overall experience.

For the storage on the 2013 Inspiron 15R Touch, Dell uses a traditional hard drive with a very spacious one terabyte of space for applications, data and media files. The downside here is that the drive spins at a relatively sedate 5400rpm rate common to many laptop drives. This is an issue because it slows down the system boot up and loading of applications. In fact, the system takes around three quarters of a minute to boot into Windows. There is mention of options that include a mSATA solid state drive for caching but this does not seem to be an available on their current offerings. If you do need additional space, there are two USB 3.0 ports for use with high speed external drives. There is still a dual layer DVD burner on the systtem for playback and recording of CD and DVD media.

Probably the biggest disappointment with the Dell 2013 Inspiron 15R Touch is the display. Sure, it is a touchscreen with multitouch capabilities which is very useful when navigating around Windows 8 but it still uses a very low 1366x768 resolution. It would be nice to see Dell use a higher resolution display as this display is something expected on a lower cost system. Brightness and color are decent as are viewing angles. The graphics are handled by the Intel HD Graphics 4400 that are built into the Core i5 processor. This isn't a huge upgrade from the past Ivy Bridge graphics as it still lacks 3D performance for most modern games. It also doesn't really offer much of an improvement when it comes to accelerating media encoding of video with Quick Sync compatible applications.

While the body of the Inspiron 15R is relatively unchanged, they keyboard has expanded to include a numeric keypad. The one downside to this is that the arrow keys have shrunk but it offers a nice size of the rest of them. The feel is nice and the isolated keys offer an accurate and comfortable typing experience. The trackpad is centered nicely on the keyboard and is recessed slightly to help prevent accidental brushes by the palms. It features dedicated buttons rather than integrated ones and does well with multitouch gestures in Windows 8 even though most people will probably opt to use the touchscreen instead.

The battery pack on the 2013 Inspiron 15R uses a six cell battery pack with a 65WHr capacity rating. This is a bit larger than their previous generation of models with its 48WHr pack but this is likely to offset the extra power consumed byt the Touchscreen display. In digital video playback testing, the laptop was able to run for just over six hours. This is quite impressive and definitely an improvement thanks to the 4th generation Core i processors. It still isn't quite as long as Apple's MacBook Pro 15 With Retina Display that can achieve seven hours of running time but it is also much more expensive.

Priced between $850 and $1000, the new Dell Inspiron 15R Touch offers a much stronger battery life than the previous generation but essentially leaves the rest of the design unchanged. In terms of competition, it mainly competes with the likes of the new Sony VAIO Fit 15 and the Toshiba Satellite P55t. The Toshiba is the closer model as it uses the same processor but offers a higher resolution display. The downside is that it has a shorter running time from a smaller battery pack. The Sony uses a previous generation of processor but one that does provide higher performance albeit with less running time.
