Today, I had a meeting with my business partner. He is a professional in the digital area, and the discussion with him was fascinating. However, another story told by him was more interesting to me.

It was a headhunt of him. A famous professional in the same area headhunted him, and he decided to change his position in July. Although he will be a staff of another organization, my current business with him will continue even after it.

The reasons that I was interested in his headhunt are the following. At first, my business partner has already become a well-known professional, but such a person is also headhunted in the U.S.A. I have not heard that a well-known professional is headhunted in Japan, since Japanese professionals keep their position to concentrate deeply on their activities such as Research and Development. This difference shows that headhunting in the U.S.A. is much more common than in Japan. Of course, I have already understood it, but I realize it again through his story.

In addition to that, my business with him is not related to his position but to himself, and he can continue my business as well as after moving to another organization. If my business relates to his current position, he must leave it when he goes to another organization, and a new professional who arrives at his post would succeed him. On the other hand, I am a member of an organization, and almost my work relates to my position. Because of that, I must leave almost my work if I change my position. I have a lot of experience that I had to leave my work when I changed my position in my organization; therefore, I am jealous of him.

The situation where headhunting is very common is better for workers. Workers can easily find new jobs if they are not satisfied with their current jobs, and employers try to improve the terms of work in order to keep employees. I know other aspects of the situation, but I believe that increasing headhunting would eventually improve working conditions. I wish headhunting becomes one of the usual business actions in Japan.
