Hello everyone, it's Katy.
アメリカ滞在2日目は本格的に倉庫の荷物の整理にとりかかりました。
しかし、一番の問題は8年間で積もったホコリでした！マスクをしても「ゴホッ、ゴホッ、ハクション！」という感じ苦しかったです(+_+)
もう一つの問題は暑さ。何とこの日は30度を超える暑さで、倉庫の中も廊下も冷房はもちろんないし、外も真夏のような日差しが照りつけていました。
On our second day in America we started to seriously go through our stuff in the storage unit.
The biggest problem was the dust which had piled up over 8 years. We wore a mask, but we were still coughing and sneezing.
Another problem was the heat. The temperature that day was over 30 degrees Celsius (about 85 degrees Fahrenheit), and of course the storage unit and the hallway were not air conditioned, and the sun was shining like summer outside the storage unit.
倉庫の中身はガラクタとゴミが殆どだとは予想していましたが、案の定８年前に捨てるべきだったものがたくさんありました。
早速①キープするもの、②寄付するもの、③捨てるものに仕分けしました。
We expected to see mostly junk and trash in the storage unit, and indeed we found a lot of things we should have thrown away eight years ago.
We separated things we wanted to keep, to donate, and to discard.
アメリカの良いところのひとつはリサイクルのシステムが整っていることです。
ガラクタでも、多少汚れていても、無償で引き取ってくれます。しかもお礼まで言われます。
日本ではお金を出さなければ物が捨てられませんからね～
One thing good in America is that it is easy for people to recycle things.
Many donation centers will take almost anything for free even if they are a little dirty or not in perfect shape. They even thank you. In Japan, on the other hand, you have to pay money to get rid of things.
倉庫が閉まる寸前まで頑張りましたが、半分くらいしか片付かず、残りは翌日にすることにしてホテルに戻りました。
We worked until the storage company closed at 6:30 pm, but we were only half way through the stuff, so we decided to continue the next day, and we went back to our hotel.
その晩はホテルからそう遠くないところに住む友人家族に会いに行きました。
これは彼らの家の居間です。家の中で大きな犬を３匹も飼っていました。
That evening, we went to see our friend and his family who lived not far from the hotel.
This is their living room. They have three big dogs in their house.
メキシカンスタイルのディナーをいただきました。
We had Mexican style dinner at their house.
