効果的な前置きから、[possible]「可能」を使った依頼の仕方。[for you]が依頼に柔らかさを運ぶ。
Is there any chance you could drive me to the station ? [chance]は「可能性・機会」[any]がついているので、どんな小さな可能性でもという感触が加わる。
Would you mind taking the lead on this project ? 今回のタイトル文、[would you mind]には[Could you please] [Would you please]と同レベルの丁寧さがある。[mind]「嫌がる」「気にする」があることで相手心理への配慮が感じられる。文法的には[mind]はリアリティ動詞。だから後ろはいつも[ing型]。また返答には注意が必要だ。「気にするかい？」と聞かれているのだから、依頼を受けるときは「気にしない」となるので[No]で答える。[Not at all]などと答えたい。
I wonder if you could translation this for me. [wonder]は「頭に大きな？マーク」。文章としては独り言だが、会話の原則「協調」によって相手に応答する必要性が生れ、それがこの控えめな依頼を成り立たせている。[I am wondering] [I was wondering]と変化すれば丁寧さを増す。
依頼の成功度を上げるためには事前の感謝は欠かせない。
Could you ask her to come here ? I’d be very grateful.[grateful は「感謝して」[would]の持つ仮定イメージとのコンビで「そうしてもらえたら、とっても嬉しい」となる。
Could you call me back in five minutes ? I’d be thankful.
Would you mind turning on your video ? I’d appreciated it. [I appreciated it.]では事前の感謝にならない。[would] の短縮形をしっかり入れたい。
Would it be possible for you to work me through the steps ? I’d be much obliged. [obliged]は感謝の非常に堅い表現。
Could you fold the laundry for me？ That would be a great help. 「大きな助力となる」を付け加えるのも良い。You’d be my hero.「あなたは私のヒーロー」等も使える。
依頼を成功に導くには報酬の提示も効果的だ。
Would you feed my fish while I am away ? I’ll owe you one[big time] 「恩に着る」[big time]は[one ]よりもカジュアル。
Would you mind hosting the party ? I’ll cover the cost of catering.
I was wondering if you could make a diner reservation. I’ll pay for the meal.
Would you mind helping me clean the house ? I’ll make you those cookies you love.
報酬のレパートリーはいくらあってもいい。
最後は現状説明からの依頼。どうして依頼するかを説明することは、相手の同情を喚起し以来の成功率を上げる。

I really want to meet the band in person. But I can’t get back stage without invite. I was wondering if you could get me on the list.
少し長い文だが、一つ一つは決して難しくない。気持ちを込めて練習したい。

四方山話編
母が７月１４日朝、施設にて着替え中転倒し大腿骨転子部骨折。心臓も悪いことが判明し、麻酔に耐えられないと判断、手術せず直すことになった。日赤に１週間入院その後豊岡内科整形外科に転院。まだコロナの影響をあって面会は予約制、１日２組、２人まで、１５分と制限がかかっている。７月２５日妻と面会に行ったときはまだ私のことも分かっていたが、８月3日、おばさんと面会に言ったら、眠っていてあまり反応がなかった。看護師によると認知症も進行しているかもしれないと。食欲もないのでかなり心配だ。もう９２歳だもな。
