After much anticipation, the English Football League Two side Shrewsbury Town has revealed
its retained and released list for the end of the 2025-2026 season, which includes three up-and-
coming Nigerian players.
According to Nigerian football insiders at Bettingtop10 NG, the Shrews have released Trey
Ogunsuyi of Sunderland, Temple Ojinnaka of Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Bradley Ihionvien
of Peterborough United. All three players have rejoined their parent clubs.
A teenager, Ogunsuyi, joined Shrewsbury Town during the January window. Before that,
Ogunsuyi spent the first six months of the campaign on loan at Falkirk in the Scottish
Premiership. Ogunsuyi's athletic prowess had him named as part of Belgium's U19 team. One of
his notable appearances came when he scored two goals on the road at Chesterfield, while on
loan with the Reds.
Ilhionvien came to the Shrews on the last day of the transfer deadline last summer. In thirteen
appearances, Ilhionvien scored three goals for the Shrews. Formerly of Colchester United,
Ilhionvien has been on loan before with the Saxons courtesy of Peterborough United. For
Peterborough United, he appeared in twenty appearances.
One concern surrounding Ilhionvien was the knee surgery he had in 2025. Coming back ahead of
schedule, Ilhionvien has spent his time with the Shrews fully rehabbing and getting back into
game form.
Highly versatile, Temple Ojinnaka is adept at midfield, center-back, or fullback. Despite this
tremendous versatility, Ojinnaka couldn't crack the starting lineup permanently for the Wolves.
Experts rate him with a bright future, especially with Ojinnaka competing with two Premier
League squads against heavyweights like Manchester United and Everton. Since the transfer to
the Shrews, Ojinnaka played in four matches.
Again, unable to find consistent minutes, Ojinnaka was released. There's no immediate
information about future loans for the versatile Ojinnaka.
