A vote in Indonesia’s parliament on changes to election law has been postponed because there weren’t enough MPs present. If it had passed the new law would have prevented a prominent government critic from standing for the post of governor of Jakarta and allowed the youngest son of outgoing President Joko Widodo to stand in the elections in Java late this year. Critics of President Widodo accuse him of trying to extend his influence beyond October this year when he leaves office.
