China’s embassy in Ottawa has criticized the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his decision to impose a 100% tax on Chinese-made electric vehicles. The Chinese embassy said it deplored (遺憾に思う) and opposed the move, which it said would undermine normal economic and trade cooperation. Mr Trudeau said the measure was intended to stimulate and protect EV production in his country: We are transforming Canada’s auto-motor sector to be a global leader in building the vehicles of tomorrow. But actors like China have chosen to give themselves unfair advantage in the global marketplace compromising the security of our critical industries and displacing dedicated Canadian autos and middle workers.
