North Korean officials have appeared in public wearing badges displaying a portrait of their leader Kim Jong Un for the first time.
More details from our Asia Pacific editor Celia Hutton: The emergence of pins showing North Korea’s current leader marks a key step in an unfolding (展開する) campaign to place Mr Kim on a par (同等) with their country’s past leaders, his father and grandfather.
The small badges were worn on officials’ jackets at the meeting in Pyongyang showing Mr Kim’s face against a flag-shaped red background.
The leader’s badge became a fixture (定着物) 5 decades ago when North Korea’s founder Kim Il Sung made it a daily requirement for each citizens to wear a pin with his portrait.
