Scientists have recorded chimpanzees in the wild actively seeking out (探し出す) medicinal (薬の) plants when they’re sick or injured.

They follow 2 groups in the Ugandan forest when those who appeared hurt or unwell searched for a plant that was not part of their usual diet.

The scientists tested samples, most turned out to have anti-bacterial or anti-inflammatory properties.

One of the researchers Elodie  Freymann said she thinks the behavior is learned: If I had to guess, I would think that these are socially learned behaviors, these are behaviors that individuals are learning from others in their community.

And I would venture (思い切って~する) so far as to say that it might even be part of a medicinal culture, but more research has to be done.
