The government of Honduras has announced the plan to build a prison capable of holding around 20,000 people.

It’s one of a range of new measures designed to tackle violent criminal gangs active across central America.

Neighboring El Salvador has used mega prisons and mass arrests without trial to address the same problem.

The approach has been criticized by human rights groups.
