The Japanese pop group Mrs Green Apples has withdrawn its latest video from circulation and apologized after criticism that it appeared to depict indigenous people as apes.

The members are shown interacting with primitive creatures depicted as apes and presumed to be native to the island.
The Mrs Green Apple video sparked a wave of criticism on social media with fans describing it as racist. Motoki Oomori, the band’s vocalist apologized on the group’s fan page and the band’s record company pulled it from public view on Thursday saying it lacked understanding of historical and cultural context.
Coca Cola Japan said it has suspended all ad featuring the song adding that it does not tolerate any form of discrimination.
