A couple from New York who were magnet-fishing in a lake are celebrating after they pulled out (引き揚げる) a safe (金庫) that had $100,000 in cash inside.
James Kane and Barbie Agostini tossed a fishing line with a powerful magnet attached to the end into a lake in the Queen’s district on Friday.
Ms Agostini described the moment when they found the waterlogged (水浸しの) banknotes:
At first I didn’t believe it. I thought he was joking around (ちゃらける) or over-exaggerating.
You know, because we go out we like to have some fun.
So when he first told me, he’s like, oh, it’s money, I’m like, no way. No, it’s not. No, it’s not.
The New York Police Department said the couple would be allowed to keep the cash.
