South Africa is marking the 30th anniversary of its first democratic elections and the end of the apartheid.
The country is celebrating freedom day when Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress Party were first elected, putting an end to white minority rule.
Jennie Hill reports from Johannesburg: 30 years on (続けて) South Africans will(※) commemorate (記念する、祝する) those who fought apartheid and won.
Many too will recall (思い出す) the joy and hope which accompanied the election of Nelson Mandela and his African National Congress Party.
But as the current president Cyril Ramaphosa leads celebrations later today, the public mood is rather less optimistic.
The ANC which has been in power ever since that historic vote, faces what’s likely to be a bruising (傷つける) election next month.
Failing infrastructure and record levels of crime and unemployment have infuriated (激怒させる) the electorate (選挙民).
Some polls predict the ANC could lose its majority for the very first time.
