The BBC has uncovered evidence that one of Britain’s most senior hemophilia doctors gave infected blood to very young patients in the 1980s despite advising colleagues not to do so. 

 

At the time Britain relied heavily on imported blood products from America to treat hemophiliacs. 

 

But they were often sourced from high-risk donors and whole batches could be contaminated. 

 

One of the patients of the late professor Arthur Bloom subsequently died from AIDS age seven.
