Cameroon has received more than a third of a million doses of a new malaria vaccine, the first to be approved by the World Health Organization. 

 

The country’s health minister described it as a historic moment. 

 

Kenya, Ghana, and Malawi have already started distributing the RTS,S vaccine. 

 

Juliette Haenni from UNICEF was at Yaounde airport when the supplies arrived: 

 

It’s quite a special moment today that we are receiving here at the airport the 1st batch of malaria vaccines. 

 

Cameroon is one of 11 countries in Africa which have the very high burden of malaria. 

You must know that every minute one child under 5 dies from malaria worldwide. 

 

So this vaccine is the chance to prevent many deaths and make a step forward in the lives of the children.
