The President of one of Japan’s most powerful talent agencies Johnny and Associates has issued an apology to people who have alleged sexual abuse by the agency’s late founder Johnny Kitagawa.
Thousands of fans of boy bands submitted a petition (請願、嘆願) last week demanding an investigation.
Shyima Hallar reports from Tokyo: In a rare statement Julie Keiko Fujishima, one of Jonny Kitagawa’s nieces, and the current president of Japan’s most powerful talent agency, expressed her deepest apologies to those who have come forward with sexual abuse claims adding that she was not aware of uncle’s actions.
The apology came a month after Kauan Komoto, a Japanese Brazilian singer, claimed that the entertainment mogul (実力者) sexually abused him on multiple occasions as a young teen.
Kitagawa was arguably (おそらく間違いなく) most influential figure in Japan’s entertainment industry. He died in 2019 aged 87.
キタガワ氏は秋尾沙戸子著ワシントンハイツ p429~に登場する。GHQの住宅に住むキタガワは日本の子供を集めてジャニーズ少年野球団を率いていた。朝鮮戦争に従軍したり、上智大学で学んだりしたが、その後少年野球に集まっていたあおい輝彦たちがミュージカルバンドを組んでジャニーズという名前で芸能界に入り紅白歌合戦に出場を果たした。
日本のメディアがキタガワの罪を見て見ぬふりをしてきたことがBBCによって白日の下に晒されたのは痛快だ。マスゴミと揶揄される彼らの”正義”はこんなもんだと肝に命じて報道に接しよう。
BBCドキュメンタリーを端に発してこの件は日本で大きく取り上げられているが、ロンドンではだれもJ-POPを知らず全く話題になっていないそうだ（おはよう寺ちゃん 谷本さんより）。アジアではK-POP以外、欧米人は知らないらしい。
