A former US marine has defended putting a homeless man in a deadly chokehold in a New York city subway train.
In a statement issued by his lawyers, Daniel Penny said he and other passengers had restrained Jordan Neely in-selfdefense.

He’s seen being pinned to the ground for about three minutes before eventually turning limp (力の抜けた、ぐにゃぐにゃした).
The incident has lead to protest.
Demonstrators see this as a clear-cut case, a very public murder of a black homeless man with mental health problems.
But lawyers for the white ex-marine who administered (行う、執行する) the chokehold, say he never intended to cause harm.
They say Mr Neely aggressively threatened other passengers.
His death has been ruled (裁定する) a homicide (殺人) although no charges have been filed so far.
