市民の皆さん。
私は今日、責務に対して謙虚な気持ちを
抱き、皆さんから与えられた信頼に
感謝し、我々の祖先が払ってきた犠牲を
心に留めながら、ここに立っている。
My fellow citizens:
I stand here today humbled by the
task before us, grateful for the trust
you've bestowed, mindful of the
sacrifices borne by our ancestors.

我々はまだ若い国だが、
聖書の言葉にあるように、
子どもじみたことをやめるときが来た。
不朽の精神を再確認し、
より良い歴史を選び、世代から世代へと
引き継がれてきた崇高な考えを発展させる
ときが来た。それは、すべての人は
平等で、自由であり、最大限の幸福を
追求する機会に値するという、
神からの約束のことである。
We remain a young nation,
but in the words of Scripture,
the time has come to set aside childish
things. The time has come to reaffirm
our enduring spirit, to choose our
better history, to carry forward
that precious gift,
that noble idea, passed on from
generation to generation :
the God-given promise that all
are equal, all are free, and all deserve
a chance to pursue their full measure
of happiness.

なすべき仕事は至る所にある。
米国経済は、大胆かつ迅速な行動を
求めている。そして我々は新規の
雇用創出のみならず、新たな成長の礎を

The state of the economy calls for
action, bold and swift, and we act-not
only to create new jobs, but to lay a
new foundation for growth.
We will build the roads and bridges,
the electric grids and digital lines that
feed our commerce and bind us together.

新しい進路を模索する。
紛争の種をまき、自国の社会の問題を
西側諸国の責任とする
世界各地の指導者よ、国民は、
何を築くことができるかで

何を破壊するかでではないことを
知るべきだ。
腐敗や欺瞞、さらには異議を唱える者を
黙らせることで、権力にしがみつく者よ
あなた方は、歴史の誤った側にいる。
こぶしを下ろすなら、
我々は手をさしのべよう。
To the Muslim world, we seek a new
way forward, based on mutual interest
and mutual respect.
To those leaders around the globe
who seek to sow conflict,
or blame their society's ills on the
West : Know that your people will
judge you on what you can build,
not what you destroy.
To those who cling to power through
corruption and deceit and the silencing
of dissent, know that you are on the
wrong side of history ; but that we
will extend a hand if you are willing
to unclench your fist.

served at a local restaurant can now
stand before you to take a most
sacred oath.
