父の運転免許証更新について・・
Today,
I'm going to write about
my father's driver's license renewal.
父は今月８１歳。
胃の全摘手術をしてから
生活のほとんどをベッド
もしくは
車いすの生活です
。
My father turned 81 years old this month.
Since he had a surgery to remove his stomach two years ago
he has been spending most of his time for
staying in bed or sitting on a wheelchair.
そんな状態で運転免許証更新なんて
、
無理でしょ
、と父以外のみんなが思ったのですが、
そんなことは絶対言わずに
、
サポート。
本人は どうしても更新したいと・・
。
Everyone except for my father thought that
it was impossible to renew the license.
Of course we supported him withoug saying anything.
He wanted to have the license badly.
認知機能検査も受けました
I took a cognitive jmpairment screening test.
その後、
自分の誕生日
に
最後のドライブ
をしたいと、
家の周辺を
母を助手席に乗せてまわったそうです
。
Later, when I was away,
he said to my mother that he wanted to take the last drive
before returning his license.
Then, he went for a drive with my mother.
父は車の運転が大好きだったから
。
それに、
運転免許証は、
初めて手にしてから約６０年も
共にしていて
自分の分身みたいなもの
He liked driving and his car.
The license has been with him about 60 years,
so it was like a part of himself.
そばで見ていて、
とても残念。
でも父が自分で下した決断
は、立派だったと思います。
後期高齢化社会
。
きっと同じような思いをしている人たちが
いっぱいいるんだろうなぁ
。
I feel sorry for him,
at the same time I respect his decision
because he made up his own mind.
Our society is aging,
There must be lots of senior people,
like my father, having the same situation.
