K: I watched a rugby match in Ueno today.
A: Oh yeah, you said you were going to go. How was it?
K: It was a really close game and super exciting. Right up until the end, we didn’t know who would win.
K: But there was one thing that was a bit disappointing.
A: What happened?
K: I watched it at the HUB in Ueno, and since it was New Zealand vs. France — a match between two foreign teams — there were three groups of foreigners there too.
A: Okay, and then?
K: At first, the three groups were sitting separately, Since they were strangers to each other, they sat separately at first, but eventually they all gathered in one place to watch together.
A: Oh really? What do you mean by that?
K: Well, they could all tell just by looking that they were foreigners, so they naturally started talking and ended up getting excited together. But for me, the biggest reason I started studying English was because I wanted to talk about rugby with foreigners and get excited with them. That was my original goal.
A: I see. That must’ve been a bit frustrating for you.
K: Yeah… It’s been five years since I started studying English, but when I realized I still couldn’t join a group like that, I felt a little disappointed in myself.
A:今日は何をしていたの？
K:今日は上野でラグビーの試合を観ていた。
A:あーそういえば行くって言ってたね。どうだった？
K:試合は接戦ですごく面白かった。最後までどうなるか分からない試合だった。
K:１つだけ残念な事があってね。
A:何があったの？
K:上野のHUBで観たんだけど、ニュージーランド対フランスという外国同士の試合だから外国人の人も３組観にきていたんだ。
A:うんそれで？
Kその３組は知らない者同士でそれぞれ離れた席に座っていたんだけど、最終的には同じ場所に集まって観ていたんだ。
A:へーつまりどういう事？
K:見た目が外国人て分かるから、話せる外国人同士で集まって盛り上がっていたんだけど、私が英語の勉強をしている一番の理由は外国人と英語でラグビーの話をして盛り上がる事だったんだよね。元々は。
A:そうなんだ、それはちょっと残念だったね。
K:うん、英語の勉強始めて５年になるけど、まだあの外国人の輪に入る事ができないんだなーと思うとちょっと自分にがっかりした。
A:なるほどね。
