カーク・ウェイラムのサックスライブ in cotton club

　

今夜はカーク・ウェイラムのライブでコットンクラブへ行ってきました。

ホイットニー・ヒューストンの「ボディー・ガード」のテーマ曲、I will always love you での彼の間奏は印象的ですよね。くずし方が粋です。





お客さんの年齢層は４０代後半～６０歳手前あたりが一番多かったのですが、わたし位の年齢の子も数名いました。blue noteと同様に大人のための社交場、という感じです。
２日前に急いで予約したのですが、ステージ正面奥の席が偶然まだ空いていたのでＬｕｃｋｅｙ！でした。客席はほぼ満員。始まる直前に急いで駆け付けてきたサラリーマン風の人もいらっしゃいました。
彼の演奏を本当に好きで足を運んでいるのがわかり、嬉しくなります。

カーク氏の演奏はパワフルかつ繊細でもちろん素晴らしかったのですが、キーボードのJohn Stoddart氏には愕然。鍵盤テクニックだけでなく、歌がうまい！
あれだけ歌えたらピンでも十分にやっていけそう。
彼の歌うＣＤが欲しい。というか、彼の歌唱力が欲しい（笑）

明日はカーク・ウェイラムのゴスペルライブに行ってきます。

第５３回グラミー賞最優秀ゴスペルソング賞を受賞したサックスプレーヤーです。

KIRK WHALUM（カーク・ウェイラム）
<プロフィール>
テネシー州メンフィスで生まれ、テキサス州ヒューストンで演奏活動を開始。
1985年にソロ・デビューを果たし、’93年のアルバム『Caché』は全米ジャズ・チャートの首位に輝く。現在まで11回ものグラミー賞ノミネートを誇る。

牧師の家庭で生まれ育った彼にとってゴスペルは原点でもあるということなので、今夜は本場のゴスペルをじっくりと味わってきます。
