クラクフで用事があって、そのあとお出かけしようと思っていたのですが、あいにくの冷たい雨で、街を歩き回るのはちょっとな…
というお天気だったので、この日はWieliczka（ヴィエリチュカ）というところにある塩鉱を見に行くことにしました。世界遺産にも登録されているのですが、入口はこんな感じで、普通にヨーロッパらしい建物、といったところです。
チケットを買ったら、言語別にツアーガイドさんと一緒にグループで塩鉱の中を見学していきます。ポーランド語以外の言語だと、３０zl近く値段が上がるそうです。
ツアーでは地下１３５メートルまで降りていきますが、塩鉱の一番深いところは地下３００メートル以上になるそうです。地下に、こんなに巨大な塩鉱が広がっているとは、地上からは想像もつきません。
しかも、塩鉱のいたるところに、チャペルが作られていて、十字架が掲げられています。

ここで昔の人々は、地中から湧き出る塩水を、あふれないようにポンプで汲み上げて、それを乾かして塩を作っていたようです。
それにしても、これほど地下深いところにもかかわらず、塩鉱のいたるところにチャペルがあって、美しい塩の彫刻や装飾が施されています。ここで働いていた人々の信仰心の厚さを感じます。塩にはものすごい浄化作用があると聞いたことがありますが、息をのむような美しい彫刻と、壁や地面の塩の結晶のキラキラが合わさって、ひんやりとしたなんとも神聖な空気が漂っていました。
ガイドさんが、彫刻以外なら壁をなめてもいいですよ、と言われ、私もなめてみましたが、やはり塩っからい
なんと、チケットにはこの塩鉱の塩2キロぶんまで壁をなめてＯＫという驚異のパッケージがついているそう(笑)
ちなみにこのガイドツアーは全行程およそ２時間ほどかかります。
しかも、途中で地下にある博物館も見学するか、そのまま出口へ向かうかを選ぶことができます。私は博物館も見学しましたが、博物館もまたガイドさんが丁寧に解説をしてくれる上に、世界一大きな塩の結晶などを見ることができます。博物館の料金はもともとチケットに含まれているので、そのまま帰ってしまうと、全ガイドツアーの半分しか見ることなく退場してしまうことになります。
２時間も歩きっぱなし！？と思うと長く感じられるかもしれませんが、私は逆に、ツアーが終わったと、「え、もう１８時なの！？（入場したのは１５時ごろ）」と驚くくらいに時間がたつのも忘れていたくらいです。
最後にお土産やさんがあり、そこでグリーンティーの香りのバスソルトを買って帰りました
After finishing some business in Cracow, I visited Wieliczka, a huge salt mine which is registered as a world heritage site. I could barely imagine ｆrom the appearance that there is something huge deep in the earth.
We can look around this site in a group with a tour guide who can speak the language of your choice (you will need to pay additional fee if you don't choose Polish).
The guide tour goes down up to 135 meters underground but the lowest level is 300 meters. We can see the chapels everywhere in the mine and this would indicate the strong faith of people working there in old times.
All the statues and even brilliant chandeliers are made of salt. I heard that salt has a strong power of purification, and along with the amazing beauty of the statues, crystal of salt, and the coolness of the air, there was an atmosphere of a sacred place.
The salt is everywhere around us and of course it is very salty when you lick the wall. We are allowed to lick up to 2kg of salt from the wall in the mine as a package of the entrance ticket. lol
It takes approximately 2 hours to go around in this tour, however, this doesn't include the time of museum tour which is also in package. In the museum tour, another tour guide can give you further details about this mine and you will have a chance to see the largest crystal of salt in the world.
You could skip the museum tour and directly exit, but if so you will miss the latter part of the entire touring site. You may feel that it is too long to walk for 2 hours but actually I enjoyed the tour forgetting the time so it won't be exhausting.
In the end, I bought a lovely bath salt as a souvenir
